Cold opinion on global warming

I am not a big conspiracy theorist, nor do I trust everything authority figures say. For years, Global Warming has been a huge problem. I have a hard time actually buying that it is, though. Every time I try to actually look for a logical stance for the believing/unbelieving side, I run into die-hard carbon-tax advocating maniacs, or chemtrail, Sasquatch-hunting racists on the internet.

Even though Climate Change is widely believed, I simply can’t make myself back it when people tweet things like this:

“I just broke down in tears in boarding area at SFO while on the phone with my wife. I’ve never cried because of a science report before.”

Followed by,

“I realized, just now: This has to be the last flight I ever take…”

Huffington Post brought this to my attention reporting it as a legitimate news story. These words were typed by a meteorologist named Eric Holthaus. Not only is he overreacting, but he’s not looking further into it. Planes’ contrails can eventually turn into cirrus clouds in the upper atmosphere, and can seed clouds lower in the atmosphere. Clouds are known to actually cool down the planet and counteract the effects of climate change. Although planes contribute to the problem of carbon dioxide, they shouldn’t be considered as big of a problem as cargo ships or even feeding lots.

People like that are going as far to claim the north pole is moving because of global warming. It is then that I would like to remind them, that the north pole has to do with the magnetic field. We could set the ice caps on fire, but the magnetic field would just stay the same. The poles actually reverse gradually every 200,000 years, so it’s no surprise that the pole is a bit displaced.

Although I’m complaining about climate extremists, I do think that we could treat our planet way better. Even if global warming turns out to be a hoax, I wouldn’t mind the majority of the aftermath; cleaner air, more things being recyclable, etc. Extremists of any kind are terrible. If someone is going to back some theory with their entire being, they should do a bit of research first.
